Description
Dimensions: 43x33cm h 141cm by Charles Rennie Mackintosh this famous Chair, narrow and high, was designed by Mackintosh more decorative purposes that strictly functional. It was destined, along with a twin, to the bedroom of the House Hill owned by the Publisher Walter w. Blackie in Helensburgh, near Glasgow, which the architect designed it in 1902. The two black ebonized wood chairs are still there, and remains intact the original effect they cause, standing out on the walls totally white. The Hill House is considered a key work of Mackintosh, because it shows the extraordinary talent and visionary forerunner of the teacher who–far from rhetorical liberty discount-expressed through new strict lines and stylized, functionalist research that would have involved-but only years later-the fervent minds of the Bauhaus.
