Eclisse Lamp Magistretti Artemide

Eclisse lamp is a lamp designed by Italian designer Vico Magistretti in 1965 for the Italian company Artemide lighting and furniture that initiated its production in 1967. It is one of the most important 20th-century industrial design products and become one of the symbols of Italian design in the world.

It is part of the permanent collection of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York and has been exhibited in several museums dedicated to design, contemporary art and furnishings from around the world. She won the Compasso D’Oro award in 1967 and is still sold today.

Eclisse lamp is a table lamp, direct or diffused light but also conceived for wall mounting; the concept, as its name suggests, comes from the astronomical phenomenon that is reflected on the project by Vico Magistretti not only in name but also in formal and technical characteristics of the lamp itself.

The Eclisse lamp allows the user to Dim, as he pleases, the light source by placing a round full body slide, and then adjust the luminous flux; If the light source is completely covered only the outer glow reminiscent of a total eclipse. This feature is not only conceptual but also functional, the lamp can be used as a source of direct or diffused light, depending on the use made of it.

Formed by very simple shapes, consists of 3 hemispheres: base, fixed and mobile inner shell outer shell. Inspired, under blind lanterns of Magistretti, Declaration of miners or thieves. The Eclipse lamp immediately receives international attention, interest is given both to the formal originality, both for aesthetic harmony and above all for the bright innovations.

Receives the Compasso D’Oro prize the same year of its production:1967. The Eclisse lamp is still in production, however newer models receive a slight change of design, or inserting a black wheel to adjust the light beam without directly touching the inner sphere, so as not to get burned
