How to Furnish Your Home
How to Furnish Your Home
It’s a good question — and at the same time, both simple and complex to answer.
First of all, we need to clarify what it means to furnish a home, an office, or a shop. Furnishing means introducing products into a living or working space that make it both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Of course, a home should also reflect the personality of those who live in it. Taste, however, is a different matter — it can be good or bad — and a good designer should never allow bad taste to dominate, even if requested.
Proper furnishing means selecting well-designed, high-quality products — they must always be original, never copies or imitations — designed by qualified designers and produced by reputable companies that guarantee both product quality and the availability of spare parts over time.
Prices do not necessarily have to be high, but they should never be too low. I can confidently say that an excessively low price is always a sign of poor quality, the use of inferior or toxic materials, and the exploitation of underpaid labor. The misleading advertising of companies that claim to offer handcrafted Italian products while in reality using Chinese labor, and constantly promote so-called “final weekend sales,” should be a clear warning to consumers — they are likely being deceived and bringing home a product worth even less than what they paid.
Quality and professionalism must be priced fairly — but we’ll discuss product quality in more detail another time.
The designer must interact with the future inhabitants of the home, understanding exactly what spaces they need, how they are used to watching TV, how they cook, how they dine, how they sleep, and even how they dress. Only after evaluating all these factors can they create a true interior design project — otherwise, it’s not about furnishing a home, but simply filling it with furniture.
Furnishing a home correctly also improves well-being. In your own nest, you should feel welcomed and comfortable, with the right balance of natural and artificial light, a kitchen worktop that does not release toxic substances, bedroom furniture that is free of formaldehyde, and, finally, a mattress — where we spend many hours — that ensures proper rest and regeneration.
To conclude: only by turning to qualified stores with expert designers who represent well-known brands can you be sure that your home will be furnished correctly. No shopping mall, discount store, or extraordinary promotion will ever replace true professionalism and experience.
